What is Progesterone?

Progesterone is important for hormonal balance in women. It is produced in the ovaries and has a role in mensturation and pregnancy. Men produce small amounts from the testicles. After menopause, a small amount is produced in the adrenal glands. Progesterone begins to decline when a woman is approaching peri-menopause and menopause. Other reasons for a decline in progesterone include anti-depressant use, hypothyroidism, vitamin deficiencies, excessive arginine consumption and stress. Natural progesterone is made from a plant source and is the same chemical structure of the progesterone produced in the body and it is not the same as synthetic progestogens. Synthetic progestogens ‘progestins’ are similar in structure to progesterone but have side effects that do not occur with natural progesterone.

Natural progesterone relieves the uncomfortable symptoms of PMS and menopause. Natural progesterone enhances the action of estrogen and they work together to maintain hormonal balance.
